AUTHORS: Thomas Kampe
Thomas Kampe has worked with movement, dance, theatre, and live-art for the last 30 years as performer, choreographer, director and educator. He is currently Senior Lecturer for Movement at Bath Spa University. Thomas trained as a visual artist in Germany and as a dancer at the Laban Centre and at Middlesex University in London. He worked with London-based Jewish Austrian Ausdruckstanz-Pioneer Hilde Holger for 13 years.
His works have included solo performances, international collaborations with dance and theatre companies, installation work with artist Laura Belem in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and site-specific performances with casts of up to 150 performers. He has collaborated with writer-director Julia Pascal since 1990, and choreographed and designed an acclaimed recreation of ‘Dybbuk‘ for Pascal Theatre Company, presented in New York in 2010. In 2012 he co-directed the trans-disciplinary performance research project 'The Mill' with 'BlackholeFactory', Braunschweig, and directed 'The Secret Listeners', a large scale site-specific event in London. His teaching has included residencies in various venues with a wide range of clients including: K3-choreographic centre Hamburg; Independent Dance London; tanzquartier Vienna; National Dance Academy Quito; Budapest Improvisation Festival; Madrid Contact Improvisation Festival; Freiburg Contact Festival; Ouro Preto Winter Festival; Tamalpa Institute of Korea. Thomas has taught and directed at Limerick University, The School for New Dance Development Amsterdam, Ehwa Women’s University Seoul, University of Hamburg, Central School for Speech and Drama, Rose Bruford College, East 15 Acting School, Accademia dell’ Arte Arezzo, De Montfort University, Oxford St John’s University, and University of Brighton. He was awarded University Teaching Fellowship (2010) and Associate Professorship (2011) at London Metropolitan University. He is also a qualified teacher of the Feldenkrais Method which forms a foundation for his teaching and informs his research and artistic practice. |
