AUTHORS: Jamila RodriguesJamila Rodrigues completed a PhD in Dance Anthropology and Sufism embodied ritual practice at Roehampton University. She worked as a professional dancer in Cape Town, South Africa and as a visiting lecturer at the Theology and Religious Studies Department at the University of Birmingham. Currently, she is a visiting scholar at Nichibuken, the International Centre for Japanese Studies, Kyoto. She is researching in Okinawa shamanism, indigenous knowledge and political ecology. This study explores and analyses the positive effects of shamanic praxis concerning Okinawa communities’ wellbeing and explores shaman women’s embodied narratives of spirit communication as a somatic process.
