Bill Tate's submission to the UK's All-Party Parliamentary Group on Management explains why it matters that the single word 'management' gets used where the terms 'managing' or 'managers' or 'management skills' should often be used. This confusion in the language we use masks a much more important confusion about the role of managers and the (relatively small) amount that individual managers can hope to achieve if the wider organisational context within which they are managing is left unchanged.
