Counter-Tourism: Summing Up on Excursions

Listen to Phil Smith's talk at the b-side symposium in Portland, Dorset in 2015:

Summing Up On Excursions

Phil addresses the volatile and absurd potential of tourism, heritage and their sites. He celebrates the wayward agency of the everyday visitor, the perils of institutional encouragement, and the contradictions and sinister unspokens of the heritage industry. Phil tells of secret mass graves, absurdly poetic signage and the inspirations to subject heritage to a few shocks and a reassembling.
